Back to Roots

Last week, one of our former pupils returned to school to say hello.  Joe Root, the new England Test Cricket captain, helped out in assembly and then gave Y6 pupils a cricketing masterclass.

He was accompanied by a whole host of journalists, who were interested in the story of him returning to his primary school.  The event was organised by 'Chance to Shine', the cricket charity funded by the ECB to get schoolchildren playing more cricket.

It was a fantastic opportunity for all the children in the junior school to get to meet someone who just a few years ago was in the same classrooms as they are now.  Joe has enabled them to understand that through skill, hard work and determination, dreams can be achieved.  Truly inspirational!

The coverage in the press has been very complimentary about Dore Primary School.  Journalists picked up on our strong values, including respect and kindness.  They also mentioned powerful pieces of work they saw displayed around school, including letters to Theresa May about the Syrian refugee crisis.  Joe said that the belief in equipping children for the world around them was as strong now at Dore as it was in his time here.
