Dore Ambassadors Present Petition at SCC Meeting

On 4th December we were invited to present the petition and library surveys gathered by the Totley Library Action Group to Sheffield City Councillors at their monthly council meeting in the City Chambers in The Town Hall. This was quite a nerve-racking experience for Tabby, Freya, Harry and Ben who were chosen to be the ambassadors representing all the schools in the local area.  The children also presented our very own letters written to the council by every Y6 pupil as part of their Literacy lessons in writing a persuasive letter.  The proposed closure of Totley Library has caused an upset stir in our community and Councillor Ross has supported this strong campaign in our area.  Our Y6 read a paragraph each (see file below) from their own letters to the councillors - these were warmly received - the response assured that the information would be looked at as the decision is made in the near future. It really felt as though we made a difference in raising awareness about how the community feels.  Councillor Jackie Drayton the Cabinet Minister for Education also spoke to the pupils saying how pleased she was that they had come forward and would be speaking to the council. Councillor Ross said their presentation was 'superb'.  I certainly felt very proud of the brave stand and excellent comments made by our ambassadors!
