Erica’s a winner!
A pupil from Dore Primary School has been selected as a winner of a national financial education competition, beating more than 4,800 other entries from across the country. Erica Davison, 9, wrote a poem as part of the national ‘A-Z of Money’ competition for My Money Week 2013, organised by financial education charity pfeg (Personal Finance Education Group).
As one of three national winners of the My Money Week competition for primary schools, Erica’s entry was exhibited at a special event in London’s V&A Museum of Childhood on Saturday 28th September. During the prize giving, Erica received £30 in gift vouchers in recognition of her success, together with a winner’s certificate signed by Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cornwall. Dore Primary School will also receive £500 in prize money for helping Erica and other pupils enter the competition.
Erica’s teacher, Richard Hanks, said:
The whole of Erica’s class got an enormous
amount out of pfeg’s My Money Week. At Dore Primary we are striving to make our
children independent, capable members of the community, and it is clear
financial understanding is becoming increasingly important. The My Money Week
competition has really helped highlight the significance of these skills.” |
