Gender Respect Project

posted 18 Jun 2014, 07:18 by Kathryn Davis
This year I have been involved with the Gender Respect Project at DECSY (Development Education Centre South Yorkshire). Many of the children have taken part in questionnaires and discussions during the year, relating to gender and sport. We found out that some children felt uncomfortable doing sports that were stereotypically for boys or girls, for example girls who wanted to play football. We discussed ways to challenge these opinions and to empower children to feel confident choosing to do any sport they wish.

2 children from each year group spent a few afternoons with me, designing posters with important messages about this. Look out for the posters in the KS2 hall at sports day.
