Have I Got News for You!

On Wednesday 9th April a group of Year 4 children went to the Town Hall to take part in the ESCAL Have I Got News for You Reading Challenge. It was a great opportunity to mix with and work alongside schools from across Sheffield. They shared different reading activities based on newspaper reports. Craig Bradley 'That Poetry Bloke' helped to bring words alive and made everybody laugh. Our children were a credit to themselves and the school, fully participating and sharing their ideas. The children also listened to Daniel Evans, Director of Sheffield Theatres, who spoke about how reading gives you a vivid imagination, helps you concentrate and allows you to use lots of new words.
Laura May stated, "My favourite activity was sharing the story, that we had made up, with other schools. The other children had to guess whether our story was true or false. Our story was false!"
Joe Netting stated, "Well the day was OK because there was good entertainment (funny poet) and I enjoyed retelling the stories."
Aggie Sykes-Whateley stated "I liked comparing stories from other schools and guessing whether they were true or false."
Jessica Haigh and Caitlin Hatley stated, "One of the best things about ESCAL was meeting new people and making friends. We also enjoyed telling our fake stories and listening to our pairs true story. Jess' pairs story was about a Geep, which is a cross between a goat and a sheep. Caitlin's pairs story was about a Goose on the loose! It was true! We had a GREAT time!"
