Mascots bring good luck to the world's oldest football club!

This afternoon Sheffield FC had two mascots from Dore at the Ladies' First Team team game against Newcastle WFC. Sheffield FC were great hosts and it was wonderful to see so many people from Dore there to support them. After changing into the kit, the girls from Dore joined two from Greenhill for some drills on the pitch including the chance to practice penalties (Mr Hodgson please note we have two players, cool under pressure, if you need them in Brazil!). Then the mascots met the team at the end of the tunnel, walked out with the players and shook hands with the match officials and Newcastle FC. Once the match began it became clear why Sheffield FC are top of their league and after persistent pressure two penalties were awarded in quick succession so Sheffield were leading 2-0. The team work, strong tackling and accurate passing meant Sheffield never really looked like letting Newcastle back into the game and despite excellent play from Newcastle's keeper, the final score was 7-1.
So if you want to follow a Sheffield team at the top of their league, who have scored 26 goals and conceeded only 5, where you can change ends at half time, get in for a couple of pounds and watch football in a competative but friendly atmosphere, then start watching the Ladies. They have home games next Sunday 27th October and 3rd November or check Sheffield FC's website for other dates.
Congratulations to the two mascots, you represented Dore brilliantly and can be very proud of the good luck you brought the team! Thanks also to the many parents who turned up too, it was a great afternoon and I shall definitely be going back so I hope to see you there.
