One World Week 2019 14-18th October - Celebrating Our Wonderful World

posted 13 Oct 2019, 05:40 by Caroline Simpson
From 14th - 18th October we are celebrating One World Week at Dore Primary School. During our annual geography focus week the children will be taking a closer look at their class country. We will be investigating the location and key facts about the countries, as well as learning and experiencing a flavour of their traditions and cultures through art, dance, music or food.

This week we are also launching the brand new Our Wonderful World Photographic Competition. I would like children to send in their favourite photos to celebrate ‘Our Wonderful World’ to create a fantastic geography themed display in school, showing our personal and cultural links to the wider world and our love and appreciation for the places and landscapes we know.

The theme is open to interpretation, but I am looking to see pictures celebrating our links to the world we live in. This could be at home in Sheffield, family connections in the rest of the UK, places we’ve visited on holiday or countries and cultures that are part of our families’ heritage.

Photos must be pictures that children have taken themselves, and NOT published photos from publications or websites.

As many as possible of the best photos from each class will be used to create a display, and the most outstanding pictures will be printed bigger to form the centrepiece, with the children named as the photographer.

Photos can be sent to or given to your class teacher or Mrs Simpson.

Competition Rules:

·         The photos must be your own.

·         Photos should not mainly be of people (It’s OK if there are some people in the shot eg in the background.)

·         You can take your photos on a camera, smart phone or tablet.

·         Photos can be entered electronically or as prints.

Please give pictures an identifiable file name with child’s name, class and location shown in the picture. eg Mrs Simpson Y4S Madeira

I can't wait to see some amazing photos of beautiful landscapes and places we know.
