This week, for the first time in 4 years we saw huge banks of snow in Sheffield and at Dore! All local schools were shut on Thursday 29th January; on Friday we enjoyed returning to a Winter Wonderland of deep snow on a glorious cold, bright, sunny day. Thank you to all the staff who set off extra early, walked, bussed or struggled to park, as the majority of staff live a good distance from the school. There was a great Team Dore effort :) Thanks also to Mr. Luke Hall, our building supervisor, who although on paternity leave, spent 2 afternoons clearing main paths around the school. We were also helped by our Property Manager, Mr. Burgin and Mr. Fletcher now is also a chief gritter! Our children arrived well equipped to be out in the snow. THANK YOU :) Much fun was had both at playtimes and also out in the snow with staff. At lunch-time ALL the children played out on the top yards and field; as always, our older pupils took great care of our younger children :) There was plenty of snow: 8 inches in sheltered spots; 10 inches on playgrounds;12-14 inches in exposed areas! There is nothing like first hand experience and children in YRS 1,2, 3 wrote some amazing poems. See them here soon! :) |
