Sheffield School Games Orienteering

It was a pleasure to take a team to the Sheffield School Games Orienteering competition at Stradbroke Primary last Tuesday. All the children had great fun and represented the school really well. The Y5/6 girls came first and will go through to the South Yorkshire Schools finals in July - well done girls! The Y3/4 mixed team came 2nd, and the Y3/4 boys teams came 10th and 12th. The competition was run as a star exercise where they ran as a team, returning to the start after getting each flag. The children demonstrated excellent teamwork and map reading skills on a course that they were unfamiliar with.
Thanks to the DPA for purchasing our electronic dibbers. It's been great to see them being used by orienteering club, Y3, Y4 and Reception. The whole school will get the opportunity to use them at Sports Day. The children can find out their individual times so it adds a lot of competition. They are also used in competitions so it is good practice for them.
On Saturday we had a good turn out at the South Yorkshire Orienteering competition at Norfolk Park, with Rachel Turner coming 1st and Will O'Hanlon coming 4th. There is only one more Saturday event in this series, on Saturday 7th June at Bingham Park. The final is Saturday 28th June and it would be great to see as many people as possible at this event as we're in good standing to get some medals!
