On Monday 12th Oct 2015 8 year 6 Dore Democrats were invited to a Victoria Cross commemorative paving stone ceremony in respect of Sgt. John Crawshaw Raynes of the Royal Field Artillery.  The ceremony was at 11am at the Sheffield Cenotaph  in Barkers Pool.  Dignitaries present included the Lord Mayor of Sheffield, the Bishop of Sheffield, the Deputy Lieutenant, the Master Cutler and the High Sheriff.  Members of the Armed Forces were also present.  One of our pupils, Chloe Roper, had the honor of laying a wreath with the Lord Mayor.  Sgt Major John Crawshaw Raynes received his Victoria Cross for bravery and devotion to duty during the first world war.

After the ceremony we were invited back to the town hall for refreshments in the Lord Mayor's Parlour.
