Growing up Skills (GUS) Welcome Friends

Last week, the children in Y4H had to create a new friend to look after throughout the day. They came helped in Maths lessons, came swimming with us (or at least on the coach, they are only made of paper) and went for break and lunch time.

Learning from the experience of looking after someone new, the children then designed some 'welcome posters' to help the new members of the class get used to Dore Primary School. These included a promise of how they would look after their new friend and make them feel good.

Promises included:
  • We promise never to leave you by yourself.
  • We promise we will have fun.
  • We promise to keep you safe we will not laugh at you if you are different.
  • We promise to be kind to you and include you!
  • We will never leave you by yourself.
  • If you need help we will be there.
The day really helped us think about how to treat people whether they are old or new friends.
