Y5 go to infinity and beyond.........

posted 9 Oct 2013, 09:35 by Sian Granville
Well, Leicester Space Centre to be honest! We have spent the whole day there where we began by watching a film in the Planetarium about the many dangers of being an astronaut. Next we conducted an investigation to find the best design for a rocket. This required teamwork, listening carefully to and following instructions and lots of energy to launch! After all of that, we had time to look around the galleries at the American and Russian space craft, we saw the space suit Helen Sharman wore and we learnt about the qualities you need to be able to work in space. There were chances to use the same equipment as an astronaut if they were collecting samples of rock, repairing their space ship or conducting experiments. Everywhere you looked there was something new to try out or an interesting fact about space, space travel and our Universe. You can see from our photos that we had a VERY busy day!

All the Y5s were, as usual, polite, well-behaved and a pleasure to be out with. You represented school brilliantly and Mrs Smith and I are very proud of you ALL. Well done.

It is always said, because it is always true, that we could not even have thought about running this trip without the support of the parents who came with us - your energy and enthusiasm were great to see too and we hope you enjoyed the day as much as we did. Thank you for helping out and we will see on the next trip!
