A group of Y6 pupils showed their sporting prowess recently at the qualifying round of the Forge Partership Sports Hall Athletics Championship which was held at the English Institute of Sport.

20 boys and girls competed in track events such as: hurdling, sprints and relays as well as field events such as: target throw, long jump and seated throw. The team achieved an impressive first place, despite stiff opposition from other schools.

All Y6 Children have learnt new athletics skills as part of their P.E. learning this term and everyone took part in try-outs for the team. The 20 selected took part in extra training sessions as part of their P.E. learning and many decided to do extra some extra pactise out of school, showing great commitment and passion.

The event was great fun; "The children were incredibly impressive," said Mr Paterson, who led the trip. "They put in maximum effort and team spirit and their behaviour was amazing: showcasing the school wonderfully!"

The team will now compete against the six top scoring schools in the partnership at the finals event, held in a few weeks time.
