Y6 take a trip back in time to World War II

Year 6 visited Kelham Island to experience life during World War II. The trip included being trained to be part of the Home Guard, learning how to put out a fire using a stirrup pump, spotting enemy planes and visiting an Anderson Shelter. After that Y6s went to visit Betty in the munitions factory and had the chance to explore the museum. Lunch included rationed items, such as homemade biscuits and British produced fruit. Then children put their history detective skills to use, by trying to work out who the owners of suitcases were. All had been evacuated for different reasons. The day ended with a sing song and a quiz. It was a spiffing day!
