Our Y5 children this week have been able to do some great outdoor learning and fun activities.  A very large group are enjoying the fabulous weather staying at The Hollowford Outdoor Adventure Centre in Castleton.  They have been facing many challenges - the first one being making their own beds by fitting on a sheet and putting the duvet cover on. This may prove to be the biggest challenge for some of them!  Adventure activities include high ropes course with the famous Leap of Faith and zip wire over water. There has been caving and weasling, orienteering and a long walk over Mam Tor.  This adventure experience operates with 'Challenge by Choice'. The children may choose how far they go with each activity.  Everybody had a go at everything and all have a chance to weigh up the challenges and consider any risks to be aware of. This has been a super group to take away working collaboratively with good humour and showing good teamwork. The centre at Castleton has looked after the group very well indeed with expert mountain leaders not only providing the exciting activities but also full of knowledge about the local area and the natural countryside.  The centre has improved the games facilities for evenings and as always the food is BRILLIANT! Many thanks to the staff Mrs. Granville, Mrs. Davis, Mr. Rich and Mr. Hunt who have given up all the extra time to take Y5 away for this enriching experience which is also great fun.
A smaller group of children have been engaging in a different timetable back in school. Ms Morris organised a super trip to Bretton Sculpture Park whilst Mrs. Smith joined the rest of her class on the Castleton walk.  The children have also spent a day with St. John's Ambulance Society learning some general First Aid. They are looking forward to showing the others what they have achieved in this short course. Thank you to Mrs. Smith for organising this programme.
