Week 8

We've had a really busy week in year 1. In our English learning we have been introduced to Dr Describer and thinking of our own adjectives to describe artifacts linked to Guy Fawkes and the gun powder plot. We tried hard to put these into sentences and some of us even thought of similes! Can your child think of some adjectives to describe this picture of Guy Fawkes?

In maths, we have been looking at 2D shapes and how to identify and sort these. We have learnt about Venn diagrams and Carroll diagrams and sorted different shapes and objects into these. The children explained how they knew the shapes were in the correct place and had to convince us they were right!

In our topic learning, we have been working as chefs! We were trying to develop our cutting, chopping and slicing skills so we made a healthy relish made from lots of different vegetables for hot dogs. Afterwards, we evaluated our product and thought about what we did well and what we could do better next time.

In phonics this week we have learnt the 'au', 'ey' and the split digraph 'a_e' . The children may like to practise these sounds along with Geraldine the giraffe:

ey - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDruUMOtzZw

a_e - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jkycxr-joDk

Can your child think of any words containing these sounds? Can they put them into a sentence?
