TASC - Settlement, Trade and Migration

On the last day of the Spring 1 half term, the Year 5 team got first hand experience of different populations encounter in settlements of different sizes and variations in resources and services. The citizens needed to maximise their Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by producing commodities to trade in and generate a profit after tax

In addition, throughout the morning different migrations took place, both internal and external. Some emigrants even had to spend a torrid time in as refugees before finishing by their immigrating into another country. The children explored effect of the emigration and immigration on each settlement.

It was a fantastic session, the children really entered into the spirit of the "game" and built their understanding of these complex issues and developed their vocabulary in the process (shown here in bold).
